Problem

Prevent inadvertent key presses on the mobile device , prevent unauthorised input and reduce power consumption when not in use.

Solution

When the device is locked or sleeping, a Lock Screen or "Sleep Screen" will be displayed. You should display key information about the device, or the context which provided the lock function, such as events, alerts, time and date, and instructions on how to unlock the device.The Lock Screen is displayed immediately after a deliberate (user initiated) lock, or when waking from sleep but not yet unlocked. Screens displayed when the device is off but charging, and similar special types of screens, are similar enough to Lock Screens to be considered the same pattern. You should display any useful information available to the device.

How to Use

Slide to unlock

This is generally a basic measure to lock the screen so that no false key press or touch triggers any event.

Password lock

User needs to enter reset password /pin number to unlock the phone.

Double Level Security : Slide and password

Here the user needs to slide the phone to unlock to prevent inadvertent phone activation. Then once the phone is up, he needs to enter the pin code to unlock the phone for use.

Pattern Lock Screen

The user unlocks the device by satisfying a predefined lock pattern set by himself, which he draws on a grid of points.

Status Update Lock Screen

Here though the device is locked, new status updates like new messages, missed calls and emails are alo shown. The user can slide against the specific update to not only unlock the phone but also to get to the app directly.

Facial Recognition Unlock

The phone can be unlocked by simply using your face. The front-facing camera will use facial recognition software to register your face and then use it every time you want to unlock the phone. A back up pin or pattern can also be registered.

Considerations

  • Mobile devices are 24/7, always-on devices. Do not dim the screen and/or cut display by default when locking the device. Consider the actual power drain, and how else the true needs of the user can be achieved.
  • Do not make the Lock Screen display or interactions, including unlocking itself, too different from the design and interaction paradigms used on the rest of the device.
  • Avoid using key combinations to unlock which may disrupt ongoing functions.
